From reality to fiction to fictionalizing fiction to suit my own fabricated reality; I read these 55 books to escape an inherited reality and when that did not insulate me enough I re-titled each book,  painting over its cover, to create my own special world to reside in.

The book is an effort for reality and fiction and my mind to finally coexist. Moby Dick is re-titled “I hunt me,”Tthe Catcher in the rye is “holden caulfield blow me,”  the Sun Also Rises is “paris bitches” and Ferdinand the Bull is “fuck potential.”

Statement by the Artist, Carlos Reyes:

“Canyon Drives” represents a body of work devoted to a series of paintings done in acrylic on sidewalks. Once painted, I photographed the sidewalks and then enlarged the images. To me, these photographs look like topography maps. I like to imagine complex little worlds in the cracks of these sidewalks. I also wanted to create something that had a strong graphic component.

These images were photographed during the summer of 2004.

This is a limited edition of 400 copies numbered 1 through 400 and 10 artist’s proofs lettered A through J.
